Advent with Austen

I’ve decided to take part in Advent with Austen. Basically, the idea is to read and watch as much Austen related stuff as possible and blog about it.

So here are my plans for Advent with Austen:

1. Re-read Sense and Sensibility – I’m re-reading sense and sensibility because its 200 years since it was published (MAD) and because this is what Laura has told me to do.

2. Re-read Northanger Abbey and Mansfield Park – I’ve read the other four books much more than these two so this is the perfect excuse to read them again. (I may read some more... I LOVE Austen an impossible amount, definitely more than you do)

3. Read the book of Jane Austen’s letters that I have had for a long time but not read yet.

4. Write a review of Mr Darcy Takes a Wife – the mad P&P sequel I bought a couple of years ago

5. Write a review of The Jane Austen Guide to Dating

6. Watch Pride and Prejudice (1995), Sense and Sensibility (1998 AND 2008), and Emma (1996)

I’ll probably write some rambling posts comparing adaptations, comparing adaptations to books, comparing different actors playing Darcy, Brandon etc. I could ramble about Austen for the rest of my life. I may even write something about the whole "Austen was poisoned!" thing.

Tomorrow I will witter about my love for Austen and where it came from. I bet you can’t wait!

  1. DO EVERYTHING I SAY! I enjoy your Austen plans muchly, and how much are you going to love December?! I think, a lot. Are you watching the Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow in? Because if so, I (predictably) say ick! I'm going to watch the Emma set in Beverly Hills, which is much more my cup of tea!

Also, LOVE Northanger Abbey! Read it more!

  2. I DO love Northanger Abbey. It has one of my all-time favourite quotes in it: "The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid."

It's the Kate Beckinsale Emma. I only have the Paltrow Emma on tape.

  3. Oh man... Mr Darcy Takes a Wife. Mad is a good way to put it. looking forward to your thoughts on it. I've started S&S this week and need to draft the 1st post of the read-along.
